BEHAVIOUR, COMMUNICATION & EDUCATION SUPPORT WORKERS!!!!!!!!!!

BEHAVIOUR, COMMUNICATION & EDUCATION SUPPORT WORKERS WITHIN THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION ARE AS "FRONTLINE" AS YOU CAN GET!!!

ALL THREE DISCIPLINES ARE AT THE COAL FACE OF THE EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTRES AND PRIMARY SCHOOLS!!!

PLEASE SHOW YOUR SUPPORT TO "SUPPORT WORKERS" BY ACKNOWLEDGING THEM WHEREEVER AND WHENEVER POSSIBLE.

BEST WISHES,

DENISE TETZLAFF,

COMMUNICATION SUPPORT WORKER,

AUCKLAND CITY.

Spot on message Denise. It was a real eye opener during support worker negotiations to get the message that no-one in the Ministry is considered frontline by the government. If the baseline cuts in the Ministry is supposed to redirect funding to frontline services it would be reassuring to know that special ed was considered to be there already.
I agree wholeheartedly, Denise ... Without Education Support Workers some children will inevitably be excluded from attending centres, as staff feel unable to cope with some behaviours which put either the child themselves or other children at risk, or in other cases, the child needs individual assistance with toileting, eating, moving about, etc ... it really becomes a human rights issue.
